C5-R Corvette Build (VP Racing Fuels built by Pfadt Engineering)

We were approached by VP fuels to work on a car that they had been running with little success. They asked if we could do anything to help....and after looking at what the previous builder had done, we were certain that we could. Now...I hadn't really planned on doing a write-up, so all I really have are some random shots to build a story with, but I think I should be able to cover most of the major improvements that we performed.

We started digging in right away when the car was dropped off. Here is what we started with:

Digging a little deeper....we weren't exactly impressed by the work the previous builder had done. Take a look at the exhaust...it is indicative of the majority of the work that had been performed.

We had a lot that we were going to tackle:  power, handling, cooling,  and aerodynamics. Addressing the handling and aerodynamics first, we decided to shift some of the weight to the rear of the car to get a better balance. This meant relocating the dry sump components and the coolers to the rear.

This helped with the balance, but now we needed to get some airflow back there:

Next was suspension. We wanted to run a square 345 tire size, so that mean custom front fenders.

While the body work was being done, custom control arms equipped with our spherical bearings were built.

Here they are paired with our double adjustable coilvoers and sway bars:

Next we worked on the aerodynamics. We ditched the z06 roof for a the hatchback. Added a massive rear diffuser, a huge vented hood.

(while the roof was off...we realized the cage wasn't welded on the top...so we fixed that up)

Next we mocked up some of our Tri-Y headers to work with the new Mast engine that was going in. We did a complete system, headers, mid-pipe, and over-axle exhaust:

  1. A lot of questions about the headers are popping up, here is a link to the headers we are running on the the c5:
